*SPIRITUAL LEADERSHIP* (VII)
_Key Bible Text:_
*"It is like one of their own prophets once said, "The people of Crete always tell lies. They are greedy and lazy like wild animals." That surely is a true saying. And you should be hard on such people, so you can help them grow stronger in their faith."* (Titus 1:12-13 (CEV))
_Bible Insight:_
Spiritual leadership must never be a place for laziness, greediness and talkativeness. Rather it is a place for hard work and discipline. Don't forget, that the least worker in church is a part of the spiritual leadership ladder. Even the security officials of the church are part or ought to be part of the spiritual leadership. Why should liers and ungodly believers or unsaved persons be manning the security apparatus of the church?
Recall that in the preceding verse it says *"But you must make them be quiet. They are after money, and they upset whole families by teaching what they should not."* (Titus 1:11) Then it continues to describe those that should be silenced or phased out of spiritual leadership-- those who tell lies and exhibit laziness like animals.
The Bible counsels us to be hard on those who are liars and are lazy-- lazy liars. Never excuse or exclude yourself from these set of persons-- because laziness and lying come in different shades and forms. The temptation of laziness and lying, visits everyone. When they come knocking, remember to obey the instruction: BE HARD ON YOURSELF!
DON'T SUFFER YOURSELF TO LIE OR BE LAZY if you are a spiritual leader. Judge yourself by yourself. Shun that lazy lying spirit. As a spiritual leader why or how can you be helping others to grow when you yourself are caught up in the unholy embrace of lies and laziness?
Only when you are hard on yourself enough to overcome lying and laziness will you be better equipped to be hard on others who show the same sinful pattern.
_MEDITATION:_
*One of themselves, even a prophet of their own, said, The Cretians are alway liars, evil beasts, slow bellies. This witness is true. Wherefore rebuke them sharply, that they may be sound in the faith.* (Titus 1:12-13 (KJV))
