Proverbs 3:5-6
"Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths."
*Principles of God's direction*
Intro=> Today, I want us to study together Proverbs 3:5-6 and uncover God’s four principles on getting direction from God.
*The first principle for getting God's direction is to* :
1. Trust Wholeheartedly in God
a. We must not trust ourselves if we want to enjoy God's direction.
- Self-sufficiency and self-dependence are characteristics of our fallen nature.
God, condemns this error in (Proverbs 28:26) “He that trusteth in his own heart is a fool: but whoso walketh wisely, he shall be delivered. “
b. We must trust our shepherd: Jesus Christ.
- To trust God is to have confidence in Him: One reason that we fail to trust God is that we do not know Him as well as we should. Every day, we should be looking for characteristics of God in the Scriptures. Seek to know God’s character through His Word.
- we must trust our shepherd with all our heart . God desires our wholehearted confidence in Him. Our heart includes our emotions, thoughts and will . Trust Him, not just in word, but also in passion.
*The second principle is to*…
2. Rest Exclusively on God
a. We must not lean on our own understanding
- When we lean on something, we rest on it. Leaning upon our own finite understanding rather than God’s infinite understanding when making a decision is not wise. It is acting as if we know better than God does. We must lean on our shepherd.
- We must rest fully on God’s superior understanding. (Psalms 147:5) “Great is our Lord, and of great power: his understanding is infinite." When making a decision, we must rest exclusively on God’s divine understanding, even if it does not seem logical to us.
*The third principle is to*...
1. Listen Carefully to God: We must acknowledge God
- To acknowledge simply means to know. “Such acknowledgment of God implies the careful consultation of God’s word for guidance.â€
- We must seek to know God’s mind by listening to what He says. He reveals His mind through the statements, commands, and principles in the Bible. He also reveals His mind through the Holy Spirit as we pray.
- God reveals His direction through His Word, the more carefully we listen to what God said in His Word, the clearer we will hear His direction. We must sincerely believe that God will never direct us contrary to His Word. Therefore, listen carefully for His direction as you read the Bible. Strive to get to know God intimately as you study and meditate on His Word.
* The fourth principle is to*...
Expect Confidently from God: He has promised to direct our paths, and He will surely do it.
- The word for paths is a synonym for the word ways earlier in the verse. It is the road you travel in life or every event in life. Your path may be your work, your friendship, your marriage, your education, your hobby, your pleasure, It includes every path.
- We must confidently expect direction from God. If we fulfil God’s requirements, we must expect Him to do as He has promised. God will direct our paths every time we follow the instructions in these verses.
Conclusion: Do you need direction from God tonight? If so, follow these principles carefully.
Prayers.

*be My Valentine*
In the Roman Empire, married men were not allowed to join the Roman army, it was only single men that were allowed to joined the Roman army.
Around the year 268 AD, a Roman emperor named Claudius II imposed a ban on marriages because too many young men choose to dodge joining the army by getting married.
A Christian priest named *Valentinus* was caught performing secret marriages and sentenced to death. While awaiting execution, he was visited by young lovers with notes about how much better love is than war.
In 469 AD, Pope Gelasius declared February 14th a holy day in honor of Valentinus.
14th February became known as Valentines day or a day of love.
*What Kind of Love?*
Long before Valentinus was executed, 14th February was celebrated by the pagan to honor Aphrodite who was a goddess of Fertility. She was also known as *the mother of Eros* – the god of Love. *Eros* is a sexual feeling of love that exist between man and woman.
As part of the celebrations to honor Aphrodite the goddess of fertility, women would submit their names into a big box and men would each draw one out and the two would be a couple for the duration of the festival celebration and at times for the entire following year.
The pagan festival gained much root and spread like wild fire throughout Rome and the nearby countries.
Temples were built for Aphrodite (the goddess of fertility, the mother of Eros) where thousands of women and men volunteered their bodies for the service of anyone who needed sex in the temple. ( Sacred Prostitution)
*Because of this the City of Corinth where the temple was built became jam-packed and wealthy.*
Many from far and near will often travel to Corinth to seek the services of the Sacred Prostitutes and so the proverb says: “The voyage to Corinth isn’t for just any man.â€
Using the execution of Saint Valentinus on the 14th February as a cover up, the pagan festival started creeping across many countries and into many religions.
*It's initial purpose hasn't changed, Valentines day is and will forever remain a day of sex in honor of Aphrodite the Roman goddess of fertility.*
Many young men and women buy condoms months or weeks before 14th February because near that day there are always shortages of condom in many countries.
*No matter how nice we Christianize it's celebrations, valentines day will continue to be a day when men and women loose their control over sex.* A day the devil use to promote immoral sexual acts.
Many virginity will be broken.
Many cheating and unfaithfulness acts will be committed.
Many sex tapes and nude pictures will go viral.
Unwanted pregnancies.
Many broken hearts and broken homes after 14th February.
It is so sad that millions of young men and women will volunteer to *Sacred Prostitutes* for Aphrodite on 14th February.
Do you not know that *your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit,* who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; 1 Corinthians 6:19.
*Love is not Sex and Sex is not Love.*
Let's be vigilant, for the Kingdom of God is at hand...
