David Joshua Egbochuo's updates

A Jonadab or A Jonathan. (IV)
_Key Bible Text:_
*"She took the pan and emptied it out before him, but he refused to eat. And Amnon said, Send everyone out from me. So everyone went out from him."* (2 Samuel 13:9 (The Amplified))
_Bible Insight:_
2 Samuel 13:6 So Amnon lay down and pretended to be sick; and when the king came to see him, Amnon said to the king, I pray you, let my sister Tamar come and make me a couple of cakes in my sight, that I may eat from her hand.
2 Samuel 13:7 Then David sent home and told Tamar, Go now to your brother Amnon's house and prepare food for him.
2 Samuel 13:8 So Tamar went to her brother Amnon's house, and he was in bed. And she took dough and kneaded it and made cakes in his sight and baked them.
Everything is fine until you have the spirit of discernment. The lesson is that it takes the spirit of discernment to avoid being a victim in the plots of deceitful men.
The King didn't dicern the mischief of his son. The sister also did not discern it. Ordinarily, we should not necessarily be in need to be wary of being decieved by one's son or by one's siblings. However, the world is also a wicked place and no one should be 100% trusted.
_MEDITATION:_
*The spirit of discernment is needed if we must see through the wicked plots of people, and some of them will unfortunately and sadly be family members!*

A Jonadab or A Jonathan. (III)
_Key Bible Text:_
*"Here's what you do," said Jonadab. "Go to bed and pretend you're sick. When your father comes to visit you, say, 'Have my sister Tamar come and prepare some supper for me here where I can watch her and she can feed me."* (2 Samuel 13:5 (The Message))
_Bible Insight:_
Some ideas only appear great at first, because you are not yet killed following it through.
Some advice are like time bomb. Once you follow through to the end, you will explode in excitement at first, and "die" at the end in regret.
I don't blame jonadabs as much as I blame those who foolishly swallow their high sounding nonsense ideas and advice.
But supposing you are practicing the role of a Jonadab, what is your gain? Why mislead others and think you are being smart?
If you must be a friend, be like a Jonathan or at least don't be a Jonadab. For one day, you will reap what you sow.
_MEDITATION:_
*A Jonadab will show enough care to give you a foolish advice but a Jonathan will show enough care to help you discover the foolishness of men so you can escape it!*

A Jonadab or A Jonathan. (II)
_Key Bible Text:_
*"Amnon had a good friend, Jonadab, the son of David's brother Shimeah. Jonadab was exceptionally streetwise."* (2 Samuel 13:3 (The Message))
_Bible Insight:_
It is better to be naive and simple than to have "good friends" in people who are streetwise but not biblewise.
"I would have you wise unto that which is good, and simple concerning evil." Romans 16:19 (KJV)b
Kill that desire to want to know everything. Because one day you will meet that "friend" that will be willing and "helpful" enough to "show you around" -- only that it would be to your detriment.
Be okay being green and innocent. Things are not as wonderful as you thought they are with knowing much!
Ecclesiastes 1:17-18 (KJV) And I gave my heart to know wisdom, and to know madness and folly: I perceived that this also is vexation of spirit.
For in much wisdom is much grief: and he that increaseth knowledge increaseth sorrow.
This doesn't mean it is bad to desire to know more of good things. But any craving and curiosity that makes you suddenly okay questionable characters being around you, is highly questionable and undesirable.

A Jonadab or A Jonathan.
_Key Bible Text:_
*"But Amnon had a friend, whose name was Jonadab, the son of Shimeah David's brother: and Jonadab was a very subtil man."* (2 Samuel 13:3 (KJV))
_Bible Insight:_
It is better to have no friends than to keep the wrong friends.
Some friends are bad for you. Some friends will leave you "exposed" rather than keep you "protected".
An evil company is not better than a lonely state. Loneliness is a blessing if compared with being surrounded with wrong and ungodly persons.
Psalms 1:1 (KJV) Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful.
Jonadab is like many people today. They like to give counsel but they won't apply that counsel themselves. They give counsel out of spite and jealousy but you will think they love you.
Many have followed Jonadabs and lost their jobs, virginity, money, marriages and children, etc. Be careful who you call friends because there are still many Jonadabs out there.
_MEDITATION:_
*Friendship with the ungodly and deceitful is like embracing a chameleon; they fit in, until they move*

BECOME! (V)
_Key Bible Text:_
*"From the head of the idol of the Ammonite god Molech David took a gold crown which weighed about seventy-five pounds and had a jewel in it. David took the jewel and put it in his own crown. He also took a large amount of loot from the city"* (2 Samuel 12:30 (GNB))
_Bible Insight:_
Those who don't like to face challenges and difficulties will not become all they are meant to become.
Don't be too quick to run from stress and troublesome situations.
"Where duty calls or danger, be never wanting there" is a line of the popular "Stand up, Stand up for Jesus, ye soldiers of the cross" hymn
Your duty post is at the place of your duties and dangers. Don't be missing in action.
David added a costly jewel to His own crown because he rose up, mobilized his people, and went to fight.
That God fights our battles doesn't mean we should run from them. It is only the battles we rise up to confront and conquer that God will then step in and fight for and with us, actually.
_MEDITATION:_
*Greatness is the result of great boldness to confront great mess and stress*

_Key Bible Text:_
*"So David gathered his forces, went to Rabbah, attacked it, and conquered it."* (2 Samuel 12:29 (GNB))
_Bible Insight:_
Those who are too petty and proud will miss important opportunities. This is because, they will pick a quarrel with how you corrected them instead of taking the point made; they will forget about what advice is being given, and be offended by who it was that had the audacity to advice them; they will focus on the minor and forget the major. Don't you ever be like that! Please!
King David could have queried or questioned the loyalty of Joab for having the audacity to tell him to go and take the city of Rabbah by Himself. He could have faulted how he said it or when he said it or what he did not say or do when saying it.
Instead, David took to the instructions and went to capture the city of Rabbah. Be like David.
Also take note, that it is not only people that will push you to your Greatness. Circumstances and challenges are God's tools used in pushing his people to their greatness.
Be sensitive to challenges. Things that pain you, stress you, trouble you and disturb you. Most times, they are there for your lifting but they don't appear so.
_MEDITATION:_
*God's answers to our prayers for blessings usually come in form of challenges and difficulties. Don't forget this.*

_Key Bible Text:_
*"And David gathered all the people together, and went to Rabbah, and fought against it, and took it."* (2 Samuel 12:29 (KJV))
_Bible Insight:_
Do you agree with me, that *"A small bag of stones and catapult can bring greatness too"* ? Maybe you do.
However, the next question will be, what is your own stone and Catapult? It maybe that shop you manage now. It may be that job you have now. It may be that handwork you run now. It may look "little" or "common" but your attitude towards it will make all the difference.
If David had looked down on his stone and catapult, I repeat, he won't kill Goliath. His stone and catapult shows that his faith was not just in His skill but in His God.
When we are too conscious of what we don't have, we downplay what we have. When we downplay what we have, we signal to God that we don't trust Him enough to use what we have. When we do so, we have by our faithlessness, deprived ourselves from greatness.
Value your days of stone and Catapult, because the days when you will be able to gather all the people together, to achieve your goals will also come too. That David used stones and catapult before, does not mean he will always use stones and catapult.
_MEDITATION:_

_Key Bible Text:_
*"He sent messengers to David to report: “I have attacked Rabbah and have captured its water supply. Now gather the rest of your forces, attack the city and take it yourself. I don't want to get the credit for capturing it.”"* (2 Samuel 12:27-28 (GNB))
_Bible Insight:_
If you live without a God glorifying ambition, you will never have enough drive to achieve great things for God.
"Great" is not defined by the general views and options or opinions of men. What is great, can be big in the eyes of one man, and small in the eyes of another. Hence, while chasing greatness, be sure to align with God's definition. But how do you know God's definition of greatness? This is where you must search God's word for yourself. And seek to know and find your God given purpose.
If you follow another man's own "greatness", you might miss yours. David's greatness required he must face Goliath without Saul's armour. If he had thought that Saul's armour will make him great, he would have lost the battle. Find your God given greatness. A small bag of stones and catapult can bring greatness too. What is your own small stone and catapult?
Secondly, have men, women, people that will push and challenge you. Don't be content being surrounded by yes- men (weak persons who always agrees with their political leader or their superior at work)
This also means, don't be too comfortable with people who praise you or try to always please you. Also keep those who seem to attack or challenge you, around you too.
If Joab had been overly ambitious, he would have taken rabbah for himself. However, he rather pushed David to go take it.
_MEDITATION:_
*If you must become what and who God says you will be, don't get offended when people push you and provoke you to do more and be better!*

_Key Bible Text:_
*"And Joab sent messengers to David and said, I have fought against Rabbah, and have taken the city of waters. Now therefore assemble the rest of the men, encamp against the city, and take it, lest I take the city, and it be called after my name."* (2 Samuel 12:27-28 (Amplified))
_Bible Insight:_
God has a habit of using ambitious men. Paul was ambitious. Elisha was ambitious. Peter was ambitious. Moses was ambitious. Mary was ambitious. Rehab was ambitious. Stephen was ambitious. David was ambitious.
What do I mean? These were all individuals who had a desire to succeed in life at one level or the other. And of course, what would pass as success for Paul would not be the same for Peter, and vice versa.
God doesn't need you as a no future ambition Christian before he can use you or make you become what he wants you to be.
God will rather interrupt you and change your focus and calling..but he needs your drive high. David may be a teenager going about his father's flock, but to confront a bear and a lion is only possible for the ambitious.
God does not need a no future ambition kind of believers. He wants bekievers who are hungry to become what God wants them to be.
If you think what you are at this moment is good enough, think again. Have enough ambition to strive to become who God wants you to be. ♥ Quit playing small thinking you're waiting for God to get you aiming big ♥ No, rather as you aim bigger, if your focus is not good enough, and if you are sensitive, God will redirect your course to a bigger aim of his own choosing.
_MEDITATION:_
*If David had remained back, Joab would have acquired more estate in His own name. Being a David's servant doesn't mean he has no ambition of his own*

BOUNCE BACK (V)
_Key Bible Text:_
*"Then Amnon hated her exceedingly; so that the hatred wherewith he hated her was greater than the love wherewith he had loved her. And Amnon said unto her, Arise, be gone."* (2 Samuel 13:15 (KJV))
_Bible Insight:_
David messed up and so did Amnon. Both involved sexual immorality. However, David accepted responsibility and braced up for his folly and its consequences. Amnon did the opposite; he played the blame game. He hated Tamar as though she did anything wrong in the whole episode.
Life is full of irresponsible approach to issues. People make poor decisions, but rather than take it upon themselves to do whatever good, they can, from that point onward, they blame the government, blame the economy, blame the devil, blame their parents, blame their background, blame their siblings or uncles or relative who in their own estimation refused to help them, and blame anything and anyone blamable.
That's absolutely irresponsible. People who do such never really bounce back from their fall even years after the incident. As a matter of fact, as they won't take responsibility and begin bouncing back, they keep making other poor decisions and at the end of the day, face a negative compound effect or ripple effect that completely makes it impossible to ever come out or bounce back from the mess.
Well, guess what? Two years later, Absalom avenged the shame brought upon his sister. Poor decisions when not managed well, will give birth to many other poor decisions.
