*DAILY DEW 17/AUGUST/2023* *HOW TO LAST* (II) _Key Bible Text:_ *"And said, If thou wilt diligently hearken to the voice of the LORD thy God, and wilt do that which is right in his sight, and wilt give ear to his commandments, and keep all his statutes, I will put none of these diseases upon thee, which I have brought upon the Egyptians: for I am the LORD that healeth thee."* (Exodus 15:26 (KJV)) _Bible Insight:_ After they murmured, we will notice that God seemed to overlook their response style instead we read as follows:- *"And he cried unto the LORD; and the LORD shewed him a tree, which when he had cast into the waters, the waters were made sweet: there he made for them a statute and an ordinance, and there he proved them."* Exodus 15:25 KJV And then the Lord added...*"If thou wilt DILIGENTLY hearken to the voice of the LORD thy God, and wilt do that which is right in his sight, and wilt give ear to his commandments, and keep all his statutes...."* the promise that follows is not the problem. The problem is our ability to carry out the terms of engagement! Shortly after this scenario, another problem came up and once again, they responded with even a worse attitude:- *"And the whole congregation of the children of Israel murmured against Moses and Aaron in the wilderness: and the children of Israel said unto them, Would to God we had died by the hand of the LORD in the land of Egypt, when we sat by the flesh pots, and when we did eat bread to the full; for ye have brought us forth into this wilderness, to kill this whole assembly with hunger."* (Exodus 16:2‭-‬3 (KJV)) Dont be so surprised with their response. Rather, look inwards, when and how have you behaved in like manner? Of course, not with the same words but have your faith not dropped and your commitments to the Lord wanned when your prayers kept looking unanswered? Have you not been tempted to "help" God since God was being too slow? Have you not accused God of abandoning you and being unfair? *DAILY DEW 16/AUGUST/2023* *HOW TO LAST* _Key Bible Text:_ *"And Israel saw that great work which the LORD did upon the Egyptians: and the people feared the LORD, and believed the LORD, and his servant Moses."* (Exodus 14:31 (KJV)) _Bible Insight:_ It is good to see God's great works. Israel saw how God dealt with Pharaoh and his army. They all perished in the red sea, same red sea that became an express road for the Israelites to pass through. The Bible records that *"And Israel saw that great work which the LORD did upon the Egyptians: and the people feared the LORD, and believed the LORD, and his servant Moses."* You will expect that they will stay believing the Lord and His servant Moses but they soon lost their fear and their faith. So Moses brought Israel from the Red sea, and they went out into the wilderness of Shur; and they went three days in the wilderness, and found no water. And when they came to Marah, they could not drink of the waters of Marah, for they were bitter: therefore the name of it was called Marah. And the people murmured against Moses, saying, What shall we drink? (Exodus 15:22‭-‬24 KJV) About four days later, they were already murmuring against Moses. Three days in the wilderness, no water and then the only water was bitter. This is sadly not just the story of the Isrealites and Moses, but this is the story of many of us. *DAILY DEW 15/AUGUST/2023* *GOING FORWARD with what you have* _Key Bible Text:_ *"And the LORD said unto Moses, Wherefore criest thou unto me? speak unto the children of Israel, that they go forward: but lift thou up thy rod, and stretch out thine hand over the sea, and divide it: and the children of Israel shall go on dry ground through the midst of the sea."* (Exodus 14:15‭-‬16 (KJV)) _Bible Insight:_ Many times you will feel stuck. You will feel unsure of yourself. Many times it will look like there is no road ahead of you, as you don't know where else to turn. At such times, learn to do just the next thing you can possibly do. There is always something you can do at any given time no matter how stuck you think you are. The problem is, you are too busy underestimating what that little thing (as you call it) you know to do can bring about. So Uncle Moses knows not what to do as he and his people have been cornered with only the red sea ahead of them. Then God tells him, *"why are you crying to me? There is still some space between you and the people and the red sea. Go forward, get as close to the sea as possible."* Then the next instructions came, *"lift thou up thy rod, and stretch out thine hand over the sea, and divide it"* You too, no matter how stuck things maybe. There is a little step you can take. Take it. While at it, the next instructions will come. Don't underestimate the so called little step. Go forward! And that skill you have, that job that is not paying well yet, that volunteer work that is just getting you busy with no income, that assignment that you keep solving and they only say a word of appreciation, etc keep at it and sooner or later your own red sea will divide too! _MEDITATION:_ *"Don't under estimate the little step you can take when you feel stuck. *DAILY DEW 14/AUGUST/2023* *Choosing stillness over worriness* _Key Bible Text:_ *"And Moses said unto the people, Fear ye not, stand still, and see the salvation of the LORD, which he will shew to you to day: for the Egyptians whom ye have seen to day, ye shall see them again no more for ever. The LORD shall fight for you, and ye shall hold your peace."* (Exodus 14:13‭-‬14 (KJV)) _Bible Insight:_ Practice being still. Practice peacefulness especially in the face of a potentially worrisome possibilities, uncertainties and events. This is one thing we must work at. And it comes by immersing yourself in the possibilities of God-can-do-ness backed by a die hard belief in God-is-good-ness! Be too sure of the goodness and mercies of God. Allow the thoughts of God's goodness mercy linger long enough in your mind until it crowds out and chases out the worry and fear that's distracting. Pause the disturbing worry that chokes your peace and strength by standing still, and as you do, you will sooner or later, see the salvation of the LORD, which he will shew to you "to day"-- that day it matters most. God knows how to show up just at the nick of time when you trust and obey him! The LORD shall fight for you, and you shall hold your peace. Yes. God fights for his own. He takes care of the issues. He sometimes simply makes the issue become a non-issue in such a way you will be shocked. Learn to hold your peace patiently. Is not this the word that we did tell thee in Egypt, saying, Let us alone, that we may serve the Egyptians? For it had been better for us to serve the Egyptians, than that we should die in the wilderness."* (Exodus 14:11‭-‬12 KJV)) _Bible Insight:_ Watch what you say when you are afraid. It is not uncommon to battle with fear once in a while. Fear of tomorrow. Fear of losing out in a contest or opportunity. Fear of failing in life or in a given task. Fear of delays in the things you want in life, a job or marriage partner or children or contracts or whatever. Fear is real but more real is faith too. And both of them have a language and an attitude. Going through life, making up your mind to be a positive minded person is one of the greatest qualities you can develop. Life tends to shoot a net of negativity at you but your job is to ensure you dogde it. Put on positivity built on God! Don't feed or indulge your fear. When the emotions of despair and uncertainty comes, be sure to rein in your feelings. And get a help too. Get around positive minded messages and books or songs. Play a song that says all things are working for your good and others like it. Hold your chest and say all is well. Pace around and say "Lord, increase my faith" or "Strengthen my faith" Have a friend or friends that you know can always have a word of faith or encouragement. *DAILY DEW 12/AUGUST/2023* *What You Do Shows Who You Respect* _Key Bible Text:_ *"But the midwives feared God, and did not as the king of Egypt commanded them, but saved the men children alive."* (Exodus 1:17 (KJV)) _Bible Insight:_ Exodus 1:15-20 has a very interesting story. One that emphasizes the place of being strong in ones convictions. The king of Egypt had a talk with two Hebrew midwives; one was named Shiphrah and the other Puah. He said, *"When you deliver the Hebrew women, look at the sex of the baby. If it's a boy, kill him; if it's a girl, let her live."* But the midwives had far too much respect for God and didn't do what the king of Egypt ordered; they let the boy babies live. They knew that the King could order their killing. But they did just like Jesus would later teach us. *"And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell."* (Matthew 10:28 (KJV)) The king of Egypt called in the midwives. "Why didn't you obey my orders? You've let those babies live!" The midwives answered Pharaoh, "The Hebrew women aren't like the Egyptian women; they're vigorous. Before the midwife can get there, they've already had the baby." When our actions show that we fear God, God takes pride in us and blesses us in his own way. God was pleased with the midwives. The people continued to increase in number--a very strong people. In this life, many circumstances will call into question who you actually fear/worship? Like Rehab, Like the Hebrew Midwives, may we align and agree with God always! Will you fear your boss over God? Will you fear your best friend over God? Will you fear your partner over God? Will you fear your government over God? Will you fear your life over God? Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me."* (John 14:3-4, 6 (KJV)) _Bible Insight:_ A driver who refuses or fails to keep his eyes on the road ahead of him, will sooner or later fail to keep his story from ending as another accident report. As the believer journeys through this world, there are many ways no doubt, but if the believer must get to the desired mansions, his eyes must be on the road that leads to those mansions. You cannot aim up ahead of you, with your eyes constantly going sideways all the time. You will make a ship reck of your faith journey. Your eyes must be on the road, straight ahead of you. Look away from all distracting pleasures, entertainment and pastimes. Focus your vision on the road that is the way-- Jesus! Don't be that driver whose eyes will not stay put on the road. Keep the road that is the way as your chief focus. Only when you stay on the road will you end up in your home! No man whose home excites and fill his thoughts all day will be sad when it is time to go home. But a man who is not excited about his home, will find many distracting excitements along the way home-- he may never get home in time. *DAILY DEW 9/AUGUST/2023* *DEVIL'S SONS & DAUGHTERS* _Key Bible Text:_ *"'Then Saul, (who also is called Paul,) filled with the Holy Ghost, set his eyes on him, And said, O full of all subtilty and all mischief, thou child of the devil, thou enemy of all righteousness, wilt thou not cease to pervert the right ways of the Lord?"* (Acts 13:9-10 (KJV)) _Bible Insight:_ "The Devil's Disciples" I remember I was once moved to make a publication, while I was a law student at the University of Lagos, captioned "The Devil's Disciples". It was a free publication which was distributed freely to all who cared to receive it. That may have been a crude and not so user friendly or reader friendly approach, as I recal that some couldn't hide their discomfort or fear whenever they spotted the title of the publication. Obviously, no sane and normal human wants to be associated as devil's disciple or devil's children. Be that as it may, many need to be bluntly told whose they belong to, judging by their conducts. Perhaps such revelation or breaking news, might help many discover and amend their ways before it is too late. When Paul was being antagonized by a certain Elymas the sorcerer in one of his evangelism outings, he was so moved by the Holy Spirit to address the man sharply, calling him by his actual identity -- mischief, child of the devil, enemy of all righteousness. You must remember when Jesus addressed Peter in like manner, even more sternly, calling him the very "Devil"! Truly, without micing words, anyone who opposes the work of God, disobeys the word of God, enjoys the ridicule and mockery of Christ, and disdains those who obey Christ, is nothing but a devil's son or daughter. When you encounter them, remember to not allow them discourage you or annoy you or even influence you. Instead, remember that the devil whose captives they have become, has no future himself nor for them! But in the end, we are all in a maze, searching without knowing, for the path and the end that is good. But in this maze of life, there are many lively and likeable ends and objects that lure and attracts. When believers fail to distinguish between what is needful or helpful from that which is desirable and admirable, we become victims of lust and greed. Not all that makes sense actually makes sense in the end. Paul discovered the real deal. Mary of Martha did too. Will you? Paul would consider all things but dung, rubbish, nonsense. Why? Just so he could win, achieve, attain CHRIST! MAKING JESUS the main mission is the main mission we must all embrace! That I may win Christ! That you may win Christ!
