A Jonadab or A Jonathan. (16)
_Key Bible Text:_
*"Just then, Jonadab, his brother Shimeah's son, stepped up. "My master must not think that all the young men, the king's sons, are dead. Only Amnon is dead. This happened because of Absalom's outrage since the day that Amnon violated his sister Tamar."* (2 Samuel 13:32 (The Message))
_Bible Insight:_
Jonadab was aware that Absalom was bent on avenging his sister Tamar. Why did he not warn the King earlier?
Why did he not warn his friend Amnon?!
Some friends prove to be very useless in some very critical times.
Jonadab advised Amnon wrongly but Jonathan advised David wisely.
Jonadab could have saved the life of Amnon by escalating what he knew but chose to look the other way until the evil happened.
_MEDITATION:_

A Jonadab or A Jonathan. (15)
_Key Bible Text:_
*"And Jonadab, the son of Shimeah David's brother, answered and said, Let not my lord suppose that they have slain all the young men the king's sons; for Amnon only is dead: for by the appointment of Absalom this hath been determined from the day that he forced his sister Tamar."* (2 Samuel 13:32 (KJV))
_Bible Insight:_
More lessons that needs to be studied and mastered.
8. Adopt a policy of sexual purity.
Don't allow your erection lead to your destruction.
Don't sacrifice your destiny for 2 minutes pleasure.
Don't waste or cut short your future on the altar of sexual immorality.
Don't keep friends that don't see anything wrong with fornication and cohabitation. Such friends will wear down your moral resolve to live right. It is just a matter of time.
If before you became born again, you had sexual partners, cut off from them especially if they are not yet saved too. Keeping people within reach who dont mind doing it, will bring you into states of avoidable temptations every once in a while.
You could wake up feeling somewhat or have a terrible day and feel like getting some "high" or taste of the past. And before you know it, you would have reached out to your ex or former sexual partner who doesn't even like your being born again and will gladly bring you back into fornication. So, cut off from such completely.
_MEDITATION:_
*Thou shalt not tempt thyself!*

A Jonadab or A Jonathan. (14)
_Key Bible Text:_
*"Then the king arose, and tare his garments, and lay on the earth; and all his servants stood by with their clothes rent."* (2 Samuel 13:31 (KJV))
_Bible Insight:_
Giving oneself to lessons from the word of God is the best...
7. Practice self restraint or self control.
Take it or leave it, your head may not always be correct. Your feelings will not always be right. Your thoughts will not always be pure. Your emotions will not always be great. Sometimes you will feel like a mess or nurse things that are not godly. But what do you do? Or how do you handle such?
Practice self control. When your head is not correct, or your feelings or emotions are getting out of hands, rein in yourself by yourself or get a good talking to.
Have godly friends, books, messages, God's word, pastors, Holy Spirit fellowship etc in your corner that you know that when you expose yourself to their ministry or company you feel like one that have gone to take a good bath. A detoxification of some sort. This is why we are told to meditate on God's word daily, and let God's word richly dwell in us.
When Amnon's sexual cravings ran wild, he needed self control and self correction. Instead he listened to someone that advised and encouraged the opposite-- self indulgence or self gratification.
Don't accept every thought or feeling or idea that comes to you at impulse. Learn to have a hold on your emotions and don't be like a boiling pot without cover, always pouring all over the place.
_MEDITATION:_
*May your head always be correct in Jesus name. Amen*

A Jonadab or A Jonathan. (XIII)
_Key Bible Text:_
*"And it came to pass, while they were in the way, that tidings came to David, saying, Absalom hath slain all the king's sons, and there is not one of them left."* (2 Samuel 13:30 (KJV))
_Bible Insight:_
These lessons needs to be studied and mastered.
6. When you are in a position of authority or leadership, as much as possible see to it that wrong conducts are not tolerated and NOT uncorrected.
Whatever is not an acceptable conduct should not only be clearly stated but be clearly reprimanded when or if it happens, no matter who is involved. This could be done privately or publicly depending on the situation. But to look away or to overlook it may be more fatal on the long run.
_MEDITATION:_

A Jonadab or A Jonathan. (XII)
_Key Bible Text:_
*"And the servants of Absalom did unto Amnon as Absalom had commanded. Then all the king's sons arose, and every man gat him up upon his mule, and fled."* (2 Samuel 13:29 (KJV))
_Bible Insight:_
There are more lessons from the story of Jonadab.
4. Learn to be truly sorry and show it convincingly.
If Amnon had good advisers in his life, or if he had a culture of self analysis or introspection, perhaps he could have realized that he should be ashamed of himself about how he handled Tamar's innocence and goodwill.
He should have realized his wickedness and taken drastic steps to amend the situation. He should have apologized to Tamar and her brother. He should have taken her in after doing whatever is necessary if their culture permitted such, which I think is applicable as half brothers and sisters like Abraham and Sarah married.
5. His father failed to take any known steps to address the situation despite being "used" in the incident.
The King ought to have done more than just being angry. There were punishments and interventions he could have ordered. He was the one who fell for the plot in the first place and asked Tamar to go serve his brother (Amnon) who pretended to be sick..
_MEDITATION:_
*If you must pretend about anything, pretend about things that will help you do better. Pretend and make it true by eventually actually accepting what you are pretending about because it is a good thing. For instance, pretend to forgive and act like it so consistently that you actually forgive*

A Jonadab or A Jonathan. (XI)
_Key Bible Text:_
*"Now Absalom had commanded his servants, saying, Mark ye now when Amnon's heart is merry with wine, and when I say unto you, Smite Amnon; then kill him, fear not: have not I commanded you? be courageous, and be valiant."* (2 Samuel 13:28 (KJV))
_Bible Insight:_
This story is filled with a couple of lessons for all observers and learners.
1. Any friend that cannot talk you out of foolishness is not a friend to keep or one to go to when you need advice.
Amnon could and should have been warned by Jonadab against his lustful desires towards Tamar. Instead he encouraged him and even shared the plan or idea of how to achieve it.
2. Any friend that doesn't know how to point you towards correction should not be your go to man when you need to weigh important decisions or even acts you have done in the past.
After Amnon satisfied his lustful desires, he could at least have heeded the advice of Tamar. He should have tried to do whatever is right to "correct" or damage control the situation. Instead, he further agravated the whole situation by chasing Tamar away wickedly and with deep hatred towards her as though she should have been blamed for the whole incident.
Jonadab should have at that point approached Amnon to talk him out of also chasing Tamar out. But there was no record of such.
3. Be a person that ponder and reflect on your past decisions.
Don't be too self assured or self confident that you assume infalibility. Recognize that you can and do make mistakes and poor decisions. From time to time, have a session with yourself where you review your past conducts and decisions and ask yourself if you have done well or wickedly or foolishly. This is called introspection.
_MEDITATION:_
*Make a regular habit of instrospection. Self analysis is for those who will go far in life and make impact*

A Jonadab or A Jonathan. (X)
_Key Bible Text:_
*"And it came to pass after two full years, that Absalom had sheepshearers in Baal-hazor, which is beside Ephraim: and Absalom invited all the king's sons."* (2 Samuel 13:23 (KJV))
_Bible Insight:_
The world says revenge is best served cold. The word says leave revenge to God.
Absalom used two full years to plan, nurture and execute a plan to get rid of Amnon. Amnon thought he was wise. He thought he could eat his cake and have it. But alas unkwon to him, his lustful craving, Jonadab's advice and his own wicked heart of using, abusing and dumping Tamar afterwards would eventually cut short his life.
While no one will approve of Absalom's wicked killing of Amon after 2 years, Amnon's death is a proof that we may make our choices but we can't unmake certain consequences that will follow such choices.
This story goes to further reaffirm that it is better to deal with people who will confront you with whatever they are not happy with about you, than those who nurse offence against you and will rather pretend they are not offended.
If Amnon knew how angry Absalom was with him, he would never have accepted the invite to the banquet of the kings' sons hosted by Absalom.
_MEDITATION:_
*2 Samuel 13:24, 27 (KJV) And Absalom came to the king, and said, Behold now, thy servant hath sheepshearers; let the king, I beseech thee, and his servants go with thy servant.
But Absalom pressed him, that he let Amnon and all the king's sons go with him.*

A Jonadab or A Jonathan. (IX)
_Key Bible Text:_
*"And Absalom her brother said unto her, Hath Amnon thy brother been with thee? but hold now thy peace, my sister: he is thy brother; regard not this thing. So Tamar remained desolate in her brother Absalom's house."* (2 Samuel 13:20 (KJV))
_Bible Insight:_
"Regard not this thing!", said Absalom, Tamar's brother. You would think he doesn't care or is just pacifying his sister. Meanwhile, it was all cover up as time would later reveal.
Conversely, the very next verse reported an angry king and father who we didn't read or hear of any drastic action he took either to correct or discipline Amnon:
2 Samuel 13:21 (KJV) But when king David heard of all these things, he was very wroth.
He was very angry. But we cant tell what else he did about it. Some of the things you are angry about, you need to let go of that anger. But for some others, you need to do something positive about the situation that is causing you anger.
Even though Absalom said nothing to Amnon. He developed a deep hatred for him from that day. A hatred so deep that it would later mature to something evil.
_MEDITATION:_
*2 Samuel 13:22 (KJV) And Absalom spake unto his brother Amnon neither good nor bad: for Absalom hated Amnon, because he had forced his sister Tamar.*

A Jonadab or A Jonathan. (VI)
_Key Bible Text:_
*"Then Amnon hated her exceedingly, so that his hatred for her was greater than the love with which he had loved her. And Amnon said to her, Get up and get out!"* (2 Samuel 13:15 (The Amplified))
_Bible Insight:_
2 Samuel 13:16 But she said, No! This great evil of sending me away is worse than what you did to me. But he would not listen to her.
2 Samuel 13:17 He called the servant who served him and said, Put this woman out of my presence now, and bolt the door after her!
...
Jonadab planted a very evil seed in the heart of Amnon. Amnon foolishly welcomed it. Incubated (meditated) upon it in his heart. And proceeded to execute it to the letter. What a foolish act.
One would think that with all the crazy desire, diligent seeking of means to achieve the desire, careful planning, and thorough execution to the letter, that Amnon would at least want to keep his "loot"! Sadly, the "(ab)use and dumb" syndrome did not start today.
Tamar accepting her ugly fate, still reasoned with the unthinking man, to at least keep her and not chase her away, but the man refused.
How easy it is for some guys, to chase a lady down like a hunt, woo her or force her, then turn around, break her heart, and simply use her or rather abuse her and dumb her like a trash? Such acts should never be seen as smart but as wicked and foolish.
_MEDITATION:_
*The spirit of discernment will mean that you sieve the pieces of information you allow to settle in your heart. When such information suggest an ungodly act, never never allow your heart to be an incubator to such ideas because when they hatch the offspring is usually wickedness and foolishness*

A Jonadab or A Jonathan. (V)
_Key Bible Text:_
*"And when she brought them to him, he took hold of her and said, Come lie with me, my sister. She replied, No, my brother! Do not force and humble me, for no such thing should be done in Israel! Do not do this foolhardy, scandalous thing!"* (2 Samuel 13:11-12 (The Amplified))
_Bible Insight:_
2 Samuel 13:10 Then Amnon said to Tamar, Bring the food here into the bedroom, so I may eat from your hand. So Tamar took the cakes she had made and brought them into the room to Amnon her brother.
.....
The slightest sign of danger should be taken seriously whenever it comes to sexual immorality and sexual temptation.
It never works to try to listen or to talk and reason when one is already caught at the heat of the moment.
Even the bible does not advice prayer or talking or reasoning. The bible advise as follows:
1 Corinthians 6:18 (KJV) Flee fornication. Every sin that a man doeth is without the body; but he that committeth fornication sinneth against his own body.
2 Timothy 2:22 (KJV) Flee also youthful lusts: but follow righteousness, faith, charity, peace, with them that call on the Lord out of a pure heart.
The solution is to FLEE not to discuss or reason it out.
Although in Tamar's case, by the time she realized what was going on, it was already too late. The lesson remains that one should never be too trusting to stay or be alone and privately with the opposite sex. Whether or not there was an evil plan that one can think of or suspect.
_MEDITATION:_
*The spirit of discernment will mean that caution should be taken when dealing with the opposite sex especially when anything suggest holding private meetings in secluded areas. It is okay not to trust yourself or the other party even if they are pastors*
